Hello I’m Hayley
Perth nutritionist and founder of Nutritious Kids and also the proud mum of two energetic little boys. I truly understand that some days parenting, especially at meal times, can feel like a constant juggling act.
I created Nutritious Kids to help families struggling with fussy eating and support parents by sharing practical information on children’s nutrition.
My approach takes the tension out of your mealtimes and makes them nutritious, delicious and enjoyable for the whole family.
A passion for children’s nutrition
I’ve been passionate about children’s nutrition since my uni days. So, it’s no surprise my nutrition degree led me to build a successful career as a paediatric nutrition advisor.
I worked closely with health care professionals, and further developed my knowledge of children’s nutrition.
Once I became a mum, I gained a parent’s perspective on children’s eating. Watching your children learning to eat and interact with food can be so much fun, but it can be challenging too.
When one of my boys began fussing over his food, I discovered how stressful life can be when you’re regularly dealing with a fussy eater.
Snack and mealtimes often turned into battles. I felt frustrated and, of course, worried about his nutrition.
Being a parent of a fussy eater
So, if you’re a parent of a fussy eater, I understand how desperately you want your child to eat the right food. And, get the right nutrition.
Luckily for me, I had qualifications and practical experience as a paediatric nutritionist to fall back on. I created a strategy for my son and we started to enjoy mealtimes once more.
But I began to wonder:
- How do other families cope with fussy eating?
- How do they sift through all the well-meaning advice to find strategies for their child?
- How could my knowledge of paediatric nutrition make life easier for these parents?
I realised I could support families by helping them develop long-term, healthy relationships with food.
The idea for Nutritious Kids began to take shape…
I wasn’t interested in short-term or one-size-fits-all fixes. I wanted to help parents find personalised solutions to suit their child’s feeding needs.
I learnt more about fussy eating, and I became a qualified SOS feeding therapist. The SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding is based on building healthy relationships with food. But it also looks beyond food – at each individual, ‘whole’ child.
I’ve created Nutritious Kids to offer a healthy, holistic approach to phasing out your child’s fussy eating – wherever you are on your feeding journey.
Whether you’ve tried every tactic under the sun, or you’re reaching out for some initial feeding advice, I’m here to help. I’ll guide you through this tricky time, so your child can move beyond fussy eating and enjoy a long-term happy, healthy relationship with food.
